HDMI questions...

I bought an HDMI cable from Wal-Mart for around $35. It's made by Psyclone. I connected it to my PS3 and HDTV. It worked okay on my PS3 games but my PS2 games looked terrible in 480p. Is it the cable or is it just better to use the A/V cable and run in 480i for my PS2 games? Also, before all my games start (for PS2 and 3) using the HDMI cable the screen turns fuzzy and makes a god awful sound. Is that normal or should my HDMI cable be returned for a better one? Also, does anybody know a good HDMI cable for less than $100? Thanks.

i think that's how it is playing ps2 games on ps3. i been playing god of war 2 and it looks ok. but ps3 games look a lot better with hdmi than with regular av cables. when ever i play ps3/ps2 games, the screen goes fuzzy and sometimes makes a noise because it downsizes from 1080i(ps3 XMB screen) to 720p(some ps3 games) or 480i(ps2 games)...so i guess it's normal...i just bought a $20 6' hdmi cable from the apple store and it works like a champ. but then again my dvd player and ps3 are really close to the tv.

Considering how HDMI uses digital signals, I don't think it's really a matter of your cables. What kind of TV are you using? SDTV and games look pretty bad on LCD.

I just got a 37" Vizio from Sams Club and it's a great TV for the price. It runs in a max of 1080i. My PS3 games look great on it but PS2 games not so much with the HDMI cable. All the PS3 games I've played drops the resolution to 720p, which is great for Resistance and pretty much all the games. I'm more concerned about how my PS2 games look. My A/V cable makes them look decent enough in 480i. The HDMI cable defaults all of my PS2 games to 480p and it's not so good. I'm not concerned with my TV at all. I'm very satisfied with it.

Did you do your system updates? PS3 have a upscaler compatibility problem that was fixed by the 1.5 update. If you have done your updates and the game still looks like crap, then maybe you are just spoiled by the PS3's HD graphics.

Another quick work around is to hookup the PS3 through both the HDMI and the analog compsite connection (the cable that came with the PS3). When you want to play PS2 games, just switch the TV input to composite, which will allow you to run PS2 games in 480i.
