Overheating?
Anyone experienced any overheating with the console?
I've noticed after prolonged use it tends to get fairly warm down one side of the machine and it makes me a little hesitatnt to leave it on for long periods - especially overnight.
Any reports of overheating/locking up?

my ps3 also gets warm down 1 side, but i dont think its boiling to the point where it is dangerous, i play for long periods of time wen i get chance and have not had any troubles, but im not sure if i wud go as far as 2 leave on all night, may be too risky,

Probably far too early for any reports of over heating, unless there are batches of dodgy units.
As with anything electrical, you should expect it to get warm if not hot during prolonged usage. Just keep it away from material (I.e. carpets, curtains) and ensure it has plenty of ventilation. I'd say now is the time to give it as much use as possible, as if you discover any issues with overheating you can get it replaced.

There's nothing to worry about, at least as overheating goes. However, I wouldn't leave it on for too long without interacting with it. In even the most advanced machines this could cause some problems in the future of your console.
By the way, like Gawain said, just make sure your unit is getting the proper ventilation if you do plan to use it or leave it for extended periods of time.

I don't think overheating is that much of a problem, at least compared to 360. Though I am worried about how fast the PS3 warms up. It would be cool when it's powered off, but the minute you power it on, it gets hot. It's not even playing games, just being on the XMB does that.

Front of mine is very cold, blows the most hot air out of the downward facing vents at the side, but not to much from side or the back.

I wonder if having the console vertically or laying it flat will have any benefits for cooling.

If it's standing upright, then the fans under the disk slot will have more space.

lol how do you work that one out?.....
btw if you have it vertical then the hot air rises..........so there is no hot air near the console.......................................but forget about it now, it doesn't heat up and performs better than the 360 =] end of..........................

The PS3 can get very warm, but that is expected from a high performance machine. I have not yet experienced any failures due to heat related issues. *Knock on wood*
