I downloaded the 1.6 update to my laptop and burned it to a cd but the ps3 doesnt detect any available media.I also tried it with an SD card but when i try to update the system with the card it still gives the same message.Help!I just wanted to have a bash on Gran Turismo 3 but it says that this isnt available and to update my system.I cant do it via the ps3 internet as i am having probs geting connected.Cheers chaps
Yes, it should work. Just go to your Systems Settings -> System Update and select your media type. If you're still having problems, put the update on the root menu of your CD or USB drive and not in some folder.
I've got an usb memory stick thingy and wanted to know whether i can download it onto that. Can u do it via cd?
You can just put it onto the usb stick and transfer it from there. Once you've downloaded it to the pc, simply copy it to your usb stick and then put your stick in the ps3's usb slot, then go to settings > system update > update via storage media. it will then scan your stick and you will be able to proceed with the update from there. This is how I did it before I got my ps3 online.
Oh, I read in the official uk mag that you have to have a folder on your stick called PS3, and in this folder create another folder called UPDATE (Must be in block capitals for the PS3 to read it for some reason), store the update file in there and it should read it ok. I did it and I can guarantee it worked for me.

I downloaded the update to my laptop then copied it onto my MP3 player, plugged it into the usb on the ps3 and off it went.Updated.SkootaKuh is right about it needing to be in a folder titled UPDATE ,written in upper case letters.Cheers
