PS3 to LCD!!Help!!

Hey guys,I know this probably has been answered many times before, but I couldnt find a definite answer anywhere.

I have a 17"BenQ LCD (FP71E+) which I plan on using when I get the PS3.It's got DVI-D and D-Sub.Dvi is hooked up to my PC.Here's the thing

1)Will I be able to get 720p(native res is 1280x1024 on my monitor)

2)What kind of a cable or adapter will I need to connect the PS3 to the VGA port and how much would it cost.

Has anyone tried something like this?If yes could you please verify if a setup of this sort actually works?

WOuld really appreciate your help guys.Dont make me get a 360

It depends on your monitor. I don't believe you can get HDMI to VGA so the only way to use your PS3 with a monitor is to use HDMI to DVI cables. The catch is that you'll need a monitor with HDCP support for that to work.

If you're in europe and are using AV cables you can get a box that converts it to VGA but it costs something like £50.

And yeah, make sure your monitor is HDCP compatible first

But isnt HDCP necessary only if your using digital(HDMI to HDMI/DVI).
How about the VDigi transcoder box that converts component HD signals to Analog. It works for the X360 so shouldnt it work for the PS3 also???Has anyone tried this??

It probably would work, but why not get a proper HDTV for your 360 rather than getting a PS3? *shrug*

HDCP is between the machine (PS3/360/dvd player/etc), the disc and the monitor. if you want HD i dont think it matters what cable you use
