I have loads of DivX movies and TV and millions of MP3's sitting on a external networked hard drive and I wondered if it was possible to connect the PS3 to this bufalo 300Gb Linkstation over the network and play them via the PS3. This would make it the ultimate boys toy and I could remove nearly all the boxes out of my living room
Also I have heard a rumour that Sony have said that they will support the divX format. Has anybody heard anymore info on this
Well bro it is possible BUT you have to convert all your Divx movies into a PS3 format, if you want i could easily get you a link, but i think its called PS3 video 9(from the same people who brought you the PSP Video 9), but yeah thats what i plan to do when i get mine, damn the possibilities are endless with this thing
Cheers for the reply, what I meant to say is that could I keep all my media on a seperate hardrive and access them from the PS3. Is there a search network or can you add the IP address of the harddrive. I want to keep all my mp3's and tv on the external hardrvie and access it from the PS3, making the PS3 a media server as well as the don of game machines.
I am not sure whether I need to convert all my movies yet as I think the PS3 will in a future firmware upgrade will make it divx compatible as everybody uses that format.
Your PS3 can access the files as long as it's hooked up to the hard drive using a USB cable. It doesn't have any wireless media access function.
And I honestly don't think Sony will ever get around to support DivX or any other file formats outside of Mpegs. The PSP has been out for a couple of years now and it still doesn't have any support for other file formats. I think the biggest addition was AVC (the Mpeg codec) and WMA (for music), but other than that, it still doesn't play WMV or any of the other popular formats.
