ps3 output problem help
I have an older rear projection tv. when I try to change my output from the standard output I get a rainbow flash then the blue screen of death on my tv. there is no audio or video. My tv is a 1080 so I select 480 720 and 1080 and that happens. I have the blue monster ps3 cables that I am useing. Is it my tv or the cables that will not let me accept anythng higher than the default output witch i think is probley lower than 480 or is it something else. What can I do to get 1080 without buying a new tv

try using the original cables that came with the PS3, then go back into the setup and select 480, 720 and 1080 (is it I or P?)...and see if it works then..

ok....i did the same thing. My tv is 1080i. I first selected all 480 720 and 1080 and it didnt work. Look up in the owner manual if you still have it for the tv and see what resolutions it actually displays. I found out that mine only does 480 and 1080i, so set accordingly on ps3.
Sucks that my 720 games get down graded to 480 instead of upscaled to 1080. Hopefully they will fix that in a firmware upgrade.
After it set it will display in 1080 until you play 720 games that will downscale to 480.
Hopefully that works for ya..

Glad I could help. It took me a bit too to figure that out with my tv too. I sure thought that if it was 1080 it would be capable to do all below it. Guess not. I too am looking for a new tv so I can use those HDMI portsand play in full HD. ahhhhh I relish the day.
