Controller

I know that the graphics and everything will be newer and better with the PS3, but what about the controller? Does anyone know of any, if any, changes are going to be made in that area?

PS3 controllers are not much different than the PS2 controllers. Their design, and even the color is same. But it does have a few upgrades such as a Bluetooth to be able to use the controller without a wire (wire-less controllers).

Sony disabled the vibration function in PS3 controllers unlike other products such as XBox 260 because it says that it interfere's with your motion of senses.

Nah, Sony had to take out the vibration because it crossed with patent laws or something, they were sued by Immersion, either to pay this huge fine per vibration controller sold or get rid of it.
PS3's motion sensing seems fun, I imagine in a FPS being able to jab it to the right to the right to do a quick side step to dodge bullets, and it seems better for flying planes than on the Wii.

I do much prefer to have the vibration on the controller. It adds to the trill of playing the game. Especially of racing cars and shooting games. I hope the added feature would compensate with the lost of the vibrations

Really, well thats a new one. I guess sony tried to cover up the real story.

ANd yes, I also enjoy the vibration system. It gives a little edge to the game and makes it a little more interesting.

Yah, I don't think saying: "We took out vibration because we we were sued" is the best thing to say at a conference, look at Wii, it has rumble + motion sensing too. And maybe we haven't seen all of the motion sensing for the PS3, maybe more degrees will be added, becuase insider game devs said they added the motion sensing into the controller a week before E3, so maybe we haven't seen all of it.

Is Bluetooth new to PS controllers? I know that there are wireless controllers for PS2. Do they just use a different form of wireless connection and Bluetooth is better?

Well, I think I just found the answer to my own (original) question. Here's an article about the new controller:

PlayStation.com - News - Press Releases - SCE ANNOUNCES NEW CONTROLLER FOR PLAYSTATION®3

Does anyone know what six-axis sensing is?

All I know is that it is tilt, I think it could be like, 1 axis is up and down, another is across, another is diagonal top left to top right, and the other is vice versa, but not sure about where 2 more axises could be placed.

Six axis refers to the concept of the 3-D plane. Sovieto had it close here. It refers to:
1) up
2) down
3) left
4) right
5) forward
6) backward
These directions are relative to the person holding the PS3 controller. 6 axis direction doesn't mean that it detects a movement within a 6 degree freedom.

Hey but... can u use the controller with one hand?, and if so... is there no be interference between the game and the controller, I mean, the games are going to be just completely connected or the motion sensor will be a little slow?

Thats a pity about the vibration option, as on some games it helped to give that "real" feel.

I quite liked the car games, and feeling the vibrations when I crashed - too often!!

I hate the Vibration. when i crash in a race or die in killzone i don't need some controller bouncing around in my hand to tell me what's happened. I love the Dualshock and changing it would be c**p. SONY's playing it safe with the controller format, why change something that already rocks?

3rd party controllers will most likely have vibration because they are not SONY

I think Sony should have went with the booerang controller. Or at least make it available for sale doesn't have to be sold stock.

The rumble would still be missing if they did.

What was changed back?

The new PS3 controller has 6 axis of movement, the ability to somehow detect forward and backward motion (see my Lair link), bigger buttons and XBOX trigger like L2 and R2 (but still the same shape). It has Blutooth and the PS3 can take up to 7 of them but was scaled back to 4.
