Help!!!!! - I Cant Get My Ps3 To Play In Hd - Help!!!!!

hey i just got a ps3 and i have an HDTV that can go up to 1080p...i can watch tv in 1080 just fine, but for some reason i cant figure out how to set my PS3 to play in HD (720p, 1080i, 1080p, etc)...

I see one the display settings that theres a screen where you select all the different resolutions that your tv supports, but when i put in the proper resolutions that my tv supports, the screen turns blue, and it seems that the PS3 dosent think that my tv supports those resolutions...

for some reason, I can only get my PS3 to play in 480i, and i cant figure out how to fix that and get it to play in HD.

Is it because i possibly have some cables/wires/outputs/etc screwed up or connected wrong, or something?

my current setup i have the power cord connected from ps3 to power, i have red, white, yellow plug connected from my ps3 to tv, and i have a HDMI cord connect from my tv to my ps3...am i missing something?

if anyone can help me, i would GREATLY appreciate it!

thanks in advanced!

Casey

you only need to have the hdmi plugged in! not the red and white one

the red and white one is for standard tv!! so unplug it from your tv and ps3 then try setting up the display again!!

Actually red and white are for stereo audio, the one which could be messing up your settings is the yellow one (composite video)

all you need is the HDMI cable, not the red white and yellow one

your ps3 display settings must not have changed for the HDMI, although it should detect and change automatically

Try turning it completely off (not on stand by) and plug the leads before turning your ps3 on

thanks for all the help guys. it was great to see all the quick responses from people trying to help me out. i really appreciate it......fortunately i finally figured out how to get it to work...all i had to do was connect the HDMI and press and hold the power button until 2 beeps (about 5/6 seconds) and then the screen popped up and said that an HDMI was detected, and problem solved!...i knew it would end up being something real simple like that.

thanks again guys!!!

Hey that's great. Did you find how to do it in the manual? Someone should be taking notes to make some kind of faq...

I had a similar issue trying to get my computer's widescreen monitor to try to work with the PS3.

I used a HDMI - DVI lead to connect between the two and the first time I switched the PS3 on, I got nothing bar a black screen. Some point later, I tried again, as I found out the monitor supports HDCP (High Definition Content/ Copy Protection). I tried out the idea of keeping the on/off button pressed for several seconds and the PS3 recognised the monitor and was displaying the HDMI video but not audio.

It was strange, however, when the PS3 set the resolution, as it decided to set it to 1080p on a computer monitor which has a maximum resolution of 1680 x 1050, not 1920 x 1080 (1080p/i resolution). I didn't quite understand that - maybe the monitor downscaled slightly but it didn't crash/ blow up/ do other strange stuff. Maybe someone can explain. The monitor in question was a HP w20 20" widescreen monitor (capable of .

I did also have to connect the non-HDMI AV output lead to the PS3 in order to get audio from the white and red plugs connected through a customised cable to some speakers to get sound but I didn't connect the yellow plug into anything. That, however, didn't cause the PS3 to change to Standard definition.

So, in answer to one of the poster's questions, you may need to have connections made to the PS3's standard and HDMI outputs, depending on your TV/ computer monitor and sound system
