how do you fix lasers

Can anyone help - I have a PS2 and an Xbox that have 'disc read error' problems now - which I assume is the laser. Where or how can this be repaired? I have another PS2 but kind of miss some of the Xbox exclusive games

The way to fix a laser is to buy a disc at a game store that cleans your disc because you cant really break the laser so the problem is to clean it with the disc but i dont know how much it is sorry

You can buy replacement lasers. Of course, if you open up your system, the warranty is no longer any good -- but with the PS2, the warranty is probably up anyway. Check ebay. We tossed our first PS2 for this exact reason. It got so bad, it wouldn't play any games anymore. But it did last several years.

Things aren't always that simple. We cleaned ours with the disc more than ten times off and on. We even took it apart and cleaned it. It would work for a week or so but it just didn't work anymore -- it needed a new laser which can be purchased for about $40.00. Our second PS2 has lasted a lot longer than the first one. Just shows you shouldn't buy the systems when they first come out.
