1080i, hdmi or composite?

Whats up all? I just got my ps3 this weekend and I love it. My wii will be on ebay shortly. Ok so on to my question. I have a tv that is capable of 1080i max resolution and I robbed the composite cables off my ps2 to use on the ps3 and the picture looks really good but I was wondering if changing to an hdmi cable would result in a better picture? I know that you have to have hdmi to view true 1080p so I was just curious if the hdmi cable would create a better picture at 1080i(compared to the cheap composite ps2 cable)? Oh yea and did they remove the warhawk demo from the store because I was wanting to check it out.

Ok if your TV goes up to 1080i I'm assuming it has 720p, change it to 720p it is actually a better picture for gaming. Just because 1080i is a higher number does not mean its superior to 720p. The i stands for interlaced and P stands for progressive. Which kind of means that with interlaced the picture is actually made up of two fields which update 60 times per and but has fewer frames per second. With progressive the scan paints all of the scan lines onto the screen at the exact same time, 60 times per second which simply means it gives a better picture, and yea of course a HDMI cable will improve the visual quality sorry if this didn't make sense to you.

Yea that makes sense. I have a basic understanding of the difference between p and i. I'll try the 720p setting when I get home and I should probably go ahead and get an hdmi cable too. Thanks for the quick response, mikey.

Your PS3 came with composite cables...so why would you "rob" them from your PS2?

Component and HDMI will not cause enough difference, on 1080i, for you to notice visually. The only advantage to HDMI is that it will transmit surround sound and it is only 1 cable compared to 5 cables.

720p is techinally better than 1080i. With 1080i you only see 540 lines at a given time, compared to 720 lines at all times, and it also causes the image to flicker slightly.

Yea I'm retarded. I meant to say component instead of composite. I still ended up getting an hdmi cable.
