I can turn it on via the controller or by pushing the 'ON' button on the base station BUT all that happens is the startup sound is played. There is NO VIDEO/ IMAGE, not even the startup screen....NOTHING

How it happened:
I was playing Need For Speed: Most Wanted. I 'Quit Game' via the PS3 button on the controller, while the game was in one of the menu screens. The game stopped and the screen went black. Then NOTHING.

Tried to fix it:
It wouldn't show any picture/ vid so I turned it off at the back...waited a bit and then turned it on again. Heard the startup sound and then nothing except black screen. Tried a BluRay film and again, no image/ video. Turned of the PS3 and unplugged it, left it a while then turned it on and still BLACK SCREEN.

Any ideas or is it quite simply screwed???

Would really appreciate some help...Thanks...

hi try standard leads instead of hd lead. ps3 might have reset to standard pic cheers

Sorry if you have already tried this, but have you held down the power button on the PS3 itself to reset it ? If you have then I think it's probably just screwed.

Thanks for both of your suggestions.

I just went to try them out....turned on the PS3 and....it worked

I'll keep both suggestions in mind should I have any other problems. I totally skipped over the manual so didn't know that holding the power button was a reset - thanks for that. And good point about the leads...never even crossed my mind.

(Can't wait for November to come around so that I can actually find some decent PS3 games to play instead of old PS2 games!! I want to the Tony Hawks demo to come out so I can' decide which to buy - Skate or Tony Hawks Proving Ground)

dude you've got a ps3 - the chances of that failing are very low. don't worry my friend you won't have that problem coz its not an xbox lol

skate is quality! its the closest thing to actually skate boarding!

i ain't into skateboarding games but from what i heard skate is to easy. the controls are too simple. Tony hawks is a very successful series so wouldn't the better choice be to go for that

well never!..obviously the hawk series is popular and more sucsessful. it started way back on the PS1! skate is a new franchise. oh and the hawk games are way to simple, very unrealistic and just plain stupid. over the years they've gone back and forth with ideas, first with the realistic gameplay, or close to it, then the jackass theme came along. it's stupid...in all honesty, skate is just simply better than all the hawk games put together!

the controls are not simple, how can you say that if you've never played it? it took me about 30 min just to get to grips with the most simple tricks like olies and grinds. even then it's still a challenge. with tony hawks you press x to jump and triangle to grind..how unchallenging!

I bought the hawk game when I bought my ps3.....I didn't like it....I traded it back in a month and lost my ass on that deal.....I hadn't played tony hawk since the first one on the ps1....which I liked....but in my opinion go for skate...lots of people seem to like it....I've given up on the skating games...they just don't hold my intrest anymore...

Here is a brilliant idea....rent the games and decide what you like for yourself...
