I have the same problem with the digits and I couldn't figure out how to fix it.
used a different network with only 8 digits and it was ok it worked. My problem is I am out of range, so I bought a linksys range extender got it working but I keep losing the connection any suggestion? Is there a better range extender that I can use? |

I updated my Router from a 2wire 1800 to a 2Wire 2701HG... This gave me more encryption choices.. I'm now pretty safely connected, but still bugged about the PS3 not allowing me to enter more than 8 digits????

you probably know this already but I typed in the website http://home and went to wireless advanced setting and made up my own 5 digit code with letters and when I typed it into the PS3 it came up as 8 digit encryption code but it ended up working in the end and now i enjoy wifi

I'm gonn assume you have 2WIRE router. go to your systems webpage http://home and click on home network and then click on wireless settings and make up your own WEP code it has to be five letters or 13 numbers i used letters and then plug that into your PS3 when it asks you for a wep code. I hope that helps?

I've been playing around with my PS3 for the past few days with a 2wire router and from just changing the WEP password everything was up and running in seconds, so thanks a lot for the info it saved me smashing up my router and anything else in sight!

I've been trying to get wireless connection on my PS3 for a couple of months now, and I've tried every thing I can think of but all to no avail. When I enter my 26 digit WEP key (Netgear WGR614 and 128 bit encryption), the system tells me the number is wrong (although it does say that it is looking for either a 10-digit hexadecimal or a 26 digit hexadecimal). I'm not conversant enough with wireless to try and change any of the settings because I don't want to mess up my existing wireless laptop connections. I get about 70% on the router, although the gaming system is only 40 feet away (and upstairs). Anybody have an idea what I'm doing wrong?

I would say using WEP is like leaving the key in your front door when you go on holiday, it's hackable within 5 minutes.
You should always use WPA PSK or better still use WPA2 PSK. It would take someone with a really fast pc several days to hack WPA and longer for WPA2. If your router hasnt got WPA then it's time to update. The PS3 works fine with WPA. |

I use MAC filtering on mine. No encryption with MAC filtering on no one but the MAC addresses you allow can use the network. I also turn off SSID broadcasting and input my ip into my PS3.

If you though you were safe just using MAC filtering, think again. Last edited by Captin; 03-28-2009 at 03:56 AM. |

Fact is your not safe ever the only thing you can do is slow a hacker down it doesn't matter if you have encryption or not.
