hey - im going to be buying a ps3 next weekend so i have been preparing for my buy. ive got a 42" phillips hd ready tv and as far as i can see there is no hdmi input on the tv so i think i have to use the dvi input for my hd. only problem is that dvi does not accept audio signals. so can i use the hd to dvi cable to the tv - and use the av(on the ps3's) audio out at the same time?

the last thing i want to have to do is fork out on a sound system or change my tv or settle with av when i have a hd tv.

any help or other suggestions would be great.

I honestly don't know what DVI is.....use the componet jacks, but ya need to buy the cables....its what I use right now till I get a new TV cause mine doesn't have HDMI either....its too old I guess

You can send the video and audio signals through seperate outputs on the ps3, but idk if your tv will play video from one input and audio from another.

DVI is a digital visual interface connection - it us used instead of a vga connection on some pc screens ( the cool looking white headed cable coming out of your digital monitor to your graphics card) well dvi is capable of carrying 5-10gb of information a second(correct me if im wrong please) so some of the first 1080 and 720 high def tv's used this input because they didnt know if hdmi would take off - as for the tv being able to output picture and audio on two seperate bands well the audio will be going to my hi-fi which i have all ready connected to my sky + box via RCA cables so i just rip them out of my sky box and into my hi-fi - its not surround but it does punch a nice 250 watts.

I get it now....I know what the DVI cable is now....I found some online at frys.com....they have some DVI cables for the ps3, around $40 I think

i have my picture going through the hdmi cable and i used the lead that came with it to play the sound through my surround system so the ps3 can do it. it just depends whether you can get your tv to do it. im sure that once you connect the leads to the tele it will recognise them and work fine!
