How to connect the PS3

Hi!

This is my forst post at your site - looks the place to ask this question, so I hope someone can help!

I've purchased a PS3 today, just the 40g - primarilly to have something to share when my grandson comes over. The last video game I had was the Atari & Commodore days, so I guess I'm giving away my age.

Anyway I also bought the PS3 to play Blue Ray videos on my Hi Def TV. This leads me to my question. I purchased a HDMI cable, not sure why, but I was told it would enhance the "video & audio experience".

I figured out where the cable connects to the PS3, but I'm not sure where to connect the other end. I have a Yamaha receiver, connected to my system, but I don't think it has a HDMI connector. I alos have a JVC DVD Player, but I intend to replace it with the PS3. I also have a cable box and of course the HDTV. So where do I connect the HDMI Cable?

Thanks in advance for any help!

there should be a hdmi port on the pack of your tv, near the scart sockets etc.

I'm guessing that would mean I'd not have the surround sound effect of the receiver?

i dont know how the surround sound works with hdmi

sorry

Edit: If you have your tv set up to your surround sound it should work through the hdmi cables

just set the surround sound to work on the channel that the ps3 is on
