We normally use the PS3 connected to a CRT monitor via an X2VGA2 box using the component lead. We had it set to 1080

Over Christmas we wanted to connect to the main TV but we could not get a picture at all until I procured an HDMI lead.

On returning the PS3 to its normal home we found that we got no picture using the component lead - we had to reset to default and use the composite output via a previous box used with a PS2, we could then set the display back to component etc.

Clearly it's not a practical way of using the PS3 in the 2 locations. Is there something we could have done ot have made it more straightforward?

before you move it change the settings to that tv, so when you get there and connect to it and turn it on no probs......or if you forget you should be able to hook it up, but then reset the ps3 and it should go back to normal and then you can change the display settings to that tv.....

Thanks for the quick reply. The problem with that approach is this..

We unplug from the TV/HDMI without changing the settings, we move to the normal location and connect to the monitor via the X2VGA2 - no display. We reset to basic - no display. We have to reconnect the monitor to the old interface box that supports composite - change the settings on there (that that box can't support and so goes blank) and trust that when we connect the X2VGA2 it will work. Surely there must be an easier way? Can't it detect that it's not the HDMI lead plugged in?

I'm thinking 2nd PS3 is the easy but extravagant way!
