Connecting to PC Monitor / Audio Tips
Q: Can I connect my PS3 to a computer monitor (using HDMI)?
A: Yes, if the monitor is HDMI compliant. Just because your monitor has a DVI input, does not mean you can simply get a HDMI to DVI cable and it will work. The monitor must be HDMI compliant. So, yes the PS3 can be connected to a computer monitor -- but the monitor will need to be HDMI compliant and have either a DVI input or a HDMI input. For a DVI Input, you will need a DVI to HDMI wire (or an adaptor to fit on the end of a wire you already have).

Q: Where is a good place to get a DVI to HDMI wire/adaptor?
A: For a really fancy one (and pricey) -- they have them in stock at major electronics stores (aka BestBuy, Circuit City). I found one for about $40 at a radio shack. They are even cheaper online, and readily available.

Q: My PS3 is connected to my computer monitor and working -- but I'm not impressed with the picture. What can I do?
A: Unless you bought a real powerhouse monitor, like a 30" Samsung -- you'll probably want to mess around with your PS3's Display settings some in order to make it look really good. I found that with my monitor (Hanns G 22"), it was better to uncheck 1080i as an option and stick to 720p. For some reason, when 1080i was active -- games didn't look as good as they did when I limited the resolution to 720p (except in a couple games that were programmed to be compatible with 1080i). I'm no expert though -- I only mention all this so you'll remember to play with the PS3 settings to maximize the visuals.

Q: OK -- picture looks good. What about the audio? How do I connect it, etc?
A: There are a few different options here:
Option 1 - Get an optical cable, and run it from the PS3 to an amp.
Option 2 - Get an optical cable, and run it from the PS3 to your computer and then monkey around with "Line-In" setting and all sorts of other stuff (I'll save this option for the real tech-monkeys).
Option 3 (The Cheapest, and most practical for those of us who don't have a computer monitor right next to the home-theater receiver) - Connect the PS3 directly to your computer speakers .

Q: Explain how to connect the PS3 to computer speakers !
A: Supplies needed: A couple connectors from Radio Shack (or wherever) -- cheaper than an Optical cable.
1- Plug the regular A/V cable into the PS3 (the cables that came with the system). Ignore the video cable.
2- Plug the Red and White cables into a RCA to 1/8" Stereo converter http://www.ramelectronics.net/audio-...rod35586G.html
3- Plug the 1/8" end into a 1/8" Coupler

4- You can now plug your computer speakers into the coupler and (BOOM!) -- you have audio. (the speakers must be POWERED for this to work, of course).
((NOTE)) It’s not as hard as it sounds... I promise -- just hard to explain in a few words. There are probably other ways to do the same thing in fewer steps with different connectors etc.
