Hi, i have my ps3 hooked up with a panasonic viera lzd70 (full 1080p) hd. For some reason, after putting in a free dvd off a ps3 magazine, the start up display is only 576i now and so are all my games e.g. call of duty 4, ratchet etc. Before this, the start up screen was always 1080p and call of duty was 720. Having said this, Blu-ray films still output 1080p but after exiting disk the screen goes back to 576. I have tried to reset the display settings again and again but my ps3 still only thinks i can only output 576i (unless I play blu-ray films).

I can hook up the ps3 to a pc monitor and it recognises the monitor can output 1080i. The start up screen and games are now happily output at 1080i and 720i, respectively. Is here something wrong with my TV? thx

Don't worry, there isn't anything wrong with your TV. The DVD you put in was a standard definition DVD that's why it downscaled to 576i. Just adjust it again. Display settings - Output settings - HDMI- Custom - Tick all the boxes- press right - Click Yes - then press X. Now it should be fine.

Hi, i've tried this repeatedly but with no luck...its annoying as I had no prior problems with 1080p output whatsoever

I think you should call sony up and see if they can help you or you can hard reset the PS3 like Kingofapples said.
