PS3 No Longer Reading Discs :(
I think this is the first time ever a console has ever had any hardware problems that i've owned - well my old NES won't work these days either.
Try to restore the factory settings but still no joy, it's as if the PS3 just isn't recognising the discs at all, let alone trying to read them.

Mate you need to ring you sony center this is a fault with the ps3 its the ps3's ring of death but not so bad.
Full format and default settings will now help usally just take up time. Ring sony tell them that it dosn't read disks anymore and this is what will happen
In uk you ring 08705 99 88 77 and they will ask you details if its your first time ringing
They will want the ps3 Serial number.
The will ask you the problem and if it has been dropped, if it has don't say that lol.
When did you buy the ps3 ?
They will ask how it happens so just tell them that it stopped reading all disks
They will say how many disks have you tried and DVD's and games and you tell them
they will ask if you have tried them in a DVD player and if it worked
Just get though those and then you will be on to your address.
Some people didn't have to answer those questions but i did. they even ask for proof of buying it but they didnt ask me
They will ask you for address then tell you they can deliver you a new one on such a date. you will exchange your old one for the new one that comes in a pink box (lovely). you just exchange the PS3 you may need to put it in a box or plastic bag. you keep all wires all games all pads everything just give the PS3.
Its simple exchange broken ps3 for bran new one or rebuilt one im getting a bran new one im told...
On the ps3 the problem is they think the updates that reset the blu-ray drive. they cannot promise it wont happen to the new ps3.
Also the problem on the xbox is that the boards get so hot that the graphics chip starts to warp off the board, slowly decreasing graphics. this is a problem where it has to be returned to manufacture but dont worry they will send you a nice second hand xbox

usaly with you in todays if u call before 4pm i rang sunday today and its going to arrive tuesday if everything goes ok, ill let you know. but i gave the detailed answer cuz i just wanted to know the kinda stuff they would ask before i phoned them and no one would give the answer so i gave the answer. Very friendly people and very sorry for your faulty ps3 
Speak english fine but i heard you can get a ..... you know hope it all goes great should be with you by wed but you will need someone home all day to collect it keep that in mind. its between 8am-6pm they deliver

Yeah always better to be prepared, i hate messing about looking for stuff when im on the phone. Hopefully find the time to give them a buzz tomorrow AM.
I'm glad Sony are being so receptive to replacing faults

oh yeah dont forget that lol or you loose everything you cannot keep ur hard drive they wont let you even if u ask its a formated ps3 for a new ps3
im waiting on my new 500gb hard drive to come to go in my new ps3 :P and mouse and keyboard of course =D just gotta wait for my unreal tournament to arrive on release day
btw rob you wonna buy me a few games cuz u obvusly have money to burn there with that games list :P whats portal like anyway i need to buy orange box cuz episode 2 and portal are the only half life games i aint played

Portal is pretty fun, havnt played to much though as iv discoverd cod :P
The best part is the online imo, its fun and keeps me entertained for hours. It has cartoon graphics but its very fun
Im also getting UT3 next Friday that looks fun! cant wait for that.

New PS3
Just to let you know i rang sony sunday afternoon and my bran new ps3 arrived today at about 12:00 works fine and its better condition than mine was tbh lol might take out insurance on it though tbh after the warrentry runs out dont trust it anymore.

Oh just thinking outloud because everyone does hardcore bashing on 360s, when I think both sysyems have it's flaws.

yeah both have flaws, sony tried to keep prices down by putting in a cheaper B-R player i think and it has a fault with it that resets it to default state.
(This is my opinion the woman didnt tell me anything on the phone)
The diffrence with the consoles and the level of service.
A very nice lady/man talks to you on the phone... then 2 working days later they deliver you a bran new ps3 and take ur old one away. now i donno about anyone elses experence but iv never had a service that good :S where they come to your door to take the faulty product away in 2 days
I heard xbox takes about a month and you have to post it to them. also they only replace it with rebuilt xbox's that can be badly scratched.
Both consoles have problems but what dosn't ? in the first couple of months of release.... therefore im not talking about 360 this is taking the pee its a old console and still getting probs
