Ps3 Bought in Dubai No Longer Reads Discs
hi i live in norway (europe) and we bought a 60gb ps3 in dubai and now it no longer will read any discs (blu ray, audio, cd/dvd, nothing) but the rest of the ps3 is fine, so its really frustrating.. anyway, i have the sony warranty card and receipt but just read the warranty card and basically it states that its only valid in dubai or wherever it was bought, so not europe...anyone have any cheap/decent suggestions of what i can do? preferable without voiding warranty or whatever? really frustrating, cant play fifa with my brother or anything

thank you for referring to me as dumbass... but i have a different problem? did not buy in the same place that i live in, so needed some other type of suggestion as i probably just cant call up sony and get similar help. it is a PAL system so i dont know if that helps since that is Europe region, but registered warranty in Dubai (U.A.E.) so if youd like to help now then that would be nice, or maybe anyone else too. thanks

Just ring up sony and say you were on holiday or a relative, and you or they bought a ps3. It now has a problem. See what they say. How are you suppose to no that because you buy it from another country that it voids the warrenty in another country.

It might be region free. But the warrenty apparently states that it can only come under warrenty in the country it was bought from.

tc, ignore Rob, he's young and has problems with his hormones. He sometimes gets angry for no reason. When he gets laid he'll calm down.
Right, you are pretty much fooked, but what I would do is ring Sony in Norway (they must have a number/support line you can ring).
As far as I know Sony Europe are based in London, so if you're not having any luck try the UK number.
With regards to the unit being brought in the Middle East, just act dumb! Tell them a family member brought it you for Christmas and they have lost the receipt. Don't even mention were you got it from!
Sony are replacing all faulty PS3's. The only thing they ask is the warranty sticker is still intact. Just don't start taking a screwdriver to it now.
If you ring the UK number they might be able to give you the correct number for you're country.
I have a Jap PS3, so if mine goes belly up I'll be in the same boat as you.

Just to add......
I know a guy who recently phoned Sony cos he had a faulty unit.
The girl he spoke to asked for the serial number from the unit. She then asked him when he brought it, he said 10 months. The girl said according to her list the serial number he had given her was from the first batch of PS3's.
Anyway, he managed to blag his way through the rest of the conversation before they agreed to send him a refurb'd unit.

hey thanks will try calling norway support tomorrow.. if they ask where i brought it from, should i just say i dont know and that i just got it for christmas from a family member? but anyway, dont you need to show some sort of warranty "card" which i do have but that states thats only valid in middle east or whatever.. and if i do get "rejected" from sony norway, if i do call UK wont they just say call up sony in norway? or even if they do say okay, does that mean ill have to send my ps3 all the way to UK and request them to send one to norway from UK? and i guess if they do tell me to call sony in norway ill just say i called them because norway werent picking up the phone and id been trying a lot and was told that the one in Uk were the "headquarters"? anyway, try to answer my questions drewsie, ill wait before i take any action till i get some answers from u! thanks, you are really helpful compared to some other people here

What I would do is phone Norway support if you have the number.
Then just act dumb and bullshit as much as you can to them.
Don't let on you've brought from the Middle East!! Just say your Aunty/Uncle brought it you for Christmas.
Like I say, give them some bullshit like, "They brought it me for Christmas but they've moved to Spain to live so I can't ask them where the reciept is"
Here's the Norwegian offical Playstion forum......

You may find some answers on there.
Apart from that my friend I'm affraid you're on your own, best of luck anyway.

Rob, its only region free for PS3 games, and then its the games, not the console. Also, if Norway is PAL and Dubai is NTSC, then it wont play PS2 games from europe. Not only that, different countries have different manufacturing standards, so its not necessarily deemed "safe" to use it in Norway if it was bought in Dubai because it was probably made with different standards in mind.
Your best bet is to just call sony. At the very worst, they'll charge you for the repair, but it will cost a lot less than a new PS3. Do what drewsie said, don't tell them its from dubai (unless Playstation 3 is written in Arabic), just tell them its broke and send it in. That way you might get the repair free.

Yeah we have but if Sony is anything like MS, they don't really pay much attention to anything other than the purchase date.
