HELP my PS3 is dead

PLEASE HELP,
Just bought my PS3 today after someone returned it. I switched it on and it went straight into a sytem update screen and after 20 mins it was still hanging there. I have tried resets, unplugging it from the wall while switched on, holding buttons down for 5 seconds, holding buttons down for 10 seconds and nothing. It seems my PS3 is dead!!!!!! Is there any reboot or factory restore I can perform without going into any menu screens because I can't? PLEASE PLEASE HELP

Kitten

sounds unfortunate :o(

Try removing the hard disc drive, power it up, then switch it off and replace the HDD. Should force it into doing something..no idea if it will fix whatever fault it is tho.

Ouch, your PS3 is a brick on day one! Take it back and get a new one man, even if you have to wait until more come into the store!

ok....dont do this cause you probaly wont know what your doing and you'll end up ruining it more and when you go back to the store with a bunch of pieces you wont get your money back or a new. go and return it and get another one, obviously it was returned for a reason so be smart and give it back, i know its hard, but give it back and wait for more to come. you dont want to have a ps3 that messes up every day.

I heard of someone doing that with a 360. They opened the plastic bags carefully then melted them back together. Lol...
