So i have recently updated to 2.41 like most people by now.
My ps3 can play blu ray movies just fine.
It can stream content from TVeristy media server just fine.
however, it is unable to play all of my games.
COD4 works just fine. However that is the only game that does so.
Ratchet and clank, MGS4, GTA IV, and Drakes fortune no longer play at all. I have uninstalled them, erased saved game files. the whole nine yards. nothing.
When i start these games from the menu, the Playstation logo appears and disappears. Then the screen just goes black, and stays black (i've let it sit for several hours).
I can still hold the PS button. but when i select 'quit game' it says 'please wait' and then the machine beeps 3 times, and resets.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ouch, that sounds a little like what happened to my Xbox 360. Not cool to see the PS3 having the same issue. Do you have a waranty by chance? Because I would be getting it replaced or repaired.

Try holding down the eject button for 10 seconds.it resets the disk drive and may help.cant help any further mate.

So i have thought long and hard about it, and the thing i realized is that all the games except COD4 need to install a fair amount of data onto the hard drive. however call of duty doesn't really have an install. its more like just a save file. since everything else seems to work (blu ray playback etc) i am thinking that it is more a hard drive failure more than anything.
But i do have it covered under warranty, and i will send it in as soon as i can find proof of purchase. which as a side note is stupid, b/c it says manufactured september 2007, so obviously it is less than a year old.

no this has happend to me and i had mine replaced whats happend is the sonys fault they made and update that is leathal to the ps3 whats happend is they did a patch to patch up the games drive too make them run faster and it went wrong so u have to phone sony playstation up and say the full truth whats happend and between a day and a month it will arrive ur new one

btw cz oftht update ive had 4 new ps3 from sony for free cz they wernt working
