CECHK01 I Feel Cheated

I'm primarily a PC gamer... the PS3 is my first console since the N64. I recently purchased the PS3 when I bought a new Sony HDTV. A friend talked me into playing FFXII, so I bought the game and strategy guide only to find out that my model of PS3 (CECHK01) doesn't support PS2 games. I feel cheated and ripped off. I don't think that it's unreasonable to assume that the PS3 I buy in September 2008 is as useful as older versions of the console. This situation is wrong, and Sony should take steps to ensure compatibility with ALL of its PS3 consoles.

I have an 80GB PS3 with serial CECHK01 and it says that it cannot read the PS2 format when I insert my FFXII disk.

If I can download something that will allow me to play PS2 games I'd love to know how!

^^^^Doubt it. Have you contacted Sony yet? I'm pretty sure an 80 GB should be able to play PS2 games right out of the box no hassle.

You can't download anything to make PS2 games work on a PS3, since the newer models do not have the PS2's emotion chip, it has been removed to lower the cost of production.

The only way is to get hold of one of the early release models of the PS3.

Now that we've come full circle back into the reality of the situation, WTF SONY?!
