Most of the Viewsonic monitors' DVI ports are not HDCP compliant, in other words, you can only use them as computer monitors rather than TV substitutes. Also, you have to make sure you have selected the correct input source, there should be a button at the front of the monitor that lets toggle between sources. (D-SUB, DVI, VGA etc.) However, I am pretty sure your monitor is not HDCP compliant, so if changing the input source doesn't solve the problem, then you probably want to return it and get a HDTV instead.
