I have a 60gb ps3, and it froze, and had distorted video. I read online that it was most likely the thermal paste or power supply failing.

I replaced the thermal paste, and put it all back together, and now it powers on, and I get the yellow light of death. It goes from green to yellow to red. I tried another hard drive, and that didn't work.

It does turn on, and the fan spins, and then it shuts down. I am guessing its the power supply, but I am not 100% sure.

I would like to know what you guys think?

My friend has an 80gb ps3, but I don't feel like taking it apart to find out if the power supply is shot even though the warranty is out.

Thank you guys in advance.

I know where I can get a ps3 power supply for about $50.00, but I don't want to spend the money, and find out its the motherboard or something else.

I am a computer technician, and I am very gentle with computer parts, and PS3 parts. I was very gentle so all I can figure is the power supply was failing or motherboard.

I just found out that if I turn it on and off after a while I can get it to turn on. Right now its been on about 30 min. with no freezing, but I don't have picture or audio.

When I hold the button down for 3 beeps to hard reset it I only hear 2 beeps, and it shuts down.

I just got home from work today, and did some stuff I can't say, and It showed lines on the screen, but I am getting there. I took longer before I got the ylod again.

I know its an overheating issue now involving my motherboard cpu, and gpu.

If I do solve this issue I will be charging people to get the answer finally. I put too much time into this, but its getting there.

I just got rid of the YLOD for a while again, and I could get the ps3 to recognize the controller again, but I had no picture. I tried a hard reset again, but then the YLOD came back.

I will figure this out without buying parts hopefully.
