hi all,
if i get a US or Japanese Ps3,,can i use it online in New Zealand?..or are the machine made to only connect online in there territories?..i dont care for the dvd or blu ray movie region problems,or the backward compatibility,,i'm just worried i wont be able to download games from the playstation network,,or play online games..

does anyone know the answer!?!?!? or has anyone tried using a japanese machine in the US or the UK ,,or vice versa..

i use a Jp machine in the UK, works fine..jus set up an account in whatever territory you want, I got both US & Jp accounts & a UK one ready for launch..soon as the system launches in your area you will be able to access it.

not territory no, jus log in with whichever username relates to wherever, ive only used the US one to be honest.

Only problem comes if & when you want to buy something from the PlayStation store..you need a credit card from that region. You can get round the JP system by crediting small amounts to your PS store account, the system doesnt validate you address for small amounts apparently.

Region

Your ps3 (depending on territory) will be set for that region (online content). That means that all the content on the ps store will be handled by each region. So if you have a us ps3 here in europe, you'll only be able to use the american server - not the uk one when it becomes active.

I really cant see the point in Sony doing this .. I mean look at Xbox live - this is teh way it should be I mean play any player connected to the network regardless of the region - afterall whats the point if you cant play your friends who may after all livce in a different part of the world. ( Pointless really )

At some point Sony will change and allow online play anywhere ... well hopefully
