I am going to be getting DSL in the next few days and i was reading the manual to get online with my PS3. I saw it said i needed a router which i dont have, so i was wondering if i could just take the wire that the internet runs through and just plug that into the back of my PS3? If that doesnt work are their any ways to get online without a router?
Your best bet would be to pick up a router (wired or wireless depending on where everything's positioned), they are pretty reasonable if you shop around you can pick one up for around $100 probably cheaper.
The router will allow you to 'split' your internet connection between your ps3 and any other PC's or laptops you have - allowing them all to use the internet at the same time.
If you were to connect your ps3 directly to your modem then that would be the only device able to access the internet at that time, which depending on your own circumstances may be all you need
yeah since im the only one in my house who uses the Internet it wont be a problem but at this time i dont have enough money for a router, but still so if i plug the interent connection directly into my Ps3 it *should* work ?
Yeah, you don't need a real fancy router, something cheap will do. Before I had a router, it was a pain plugging the internet into the device i needed at the time. I would invest in one. If you watch the papers and internet deals, you can find one for cheaper than $30
