Speaking to The Times Online, analyst Nick Parker predicts the Playstation 3 console to move over 4,000,000 units in Europe by the end of 2007.

"The lack of shortage is supply driven; what Sony has shipped will sell," he said.

"We estimate that Sony will sell around 4 million units in Europe this year, with 1 to 1.5 million in the UK."

Thsi prediction according to Parker means that the PS3 could overtake the Nintendo Wii in console sales by next year - if not by the end of 2007.

The analyst also said that with the European PS3 launch just days away, sales of Xbox 360 are just 1 per cent higher than this time last year - suggesting that demand for Microsoft's console has peaked.

I honestly don't see it happening. Not unless we get a price drop that comes in line with US and Japanese prices. Until then the European consumer is getting screwed and out of the hundreds of people I know, only 2 want a PS3...and neither can afford one.

I too see this more towards the wishful thinking side... But as an analyst, he must have based his predictions on something, so I guess you never know, it might happen.

If 2million sell in Europe by the end of 2007 and I haven't already bought one, I will go back on my bitching about the price and buy one.

Yeah I agree it's quite an optimistic estimate. Given the low PS3 sales in US and Japan why should Europe be any different? Yeah I know EU is big on Playstation but still....4 million is one heck of a hill to climb. I would love to see it happen though

i dont know anyone who is getting one and i have pulled some stupid strings to afford one, i dont have much knowlege of sales and so on, but it does seem to be a very ambitious statement

Same here. Other than you lot I see on this forum I am very much alone when it comes to getting a PS3

Same here.

In school, all the people that are gamers seem to have Xbox 360.

There is only maybe one...push it to two people who are thinking of getting a PS3.

Only problem?...money.

^Yup Chris you hit the nail right on the head. I've always wanted a PS3 since I first heard the announcement in 2005. Thie big problem for me, as with everyone is, always money. I was made redundant from my job in july last year and I managed to get another one within about 2 months of being out of work. The money I got from my redundancy was used to fund a holiday, repairs to my car, and of course, my PS3. Money is always an issue and at £425 it's a big no-no for most people.

i dont think its gonna sell THAT much, id say about 3 million is about right, it WILL have about 10 million sold by the end of this yr (its been out for4 months and has sold like 3 million) so i think with supply getting better and demand WILL get higher esp when better games come out by xmas next yr ps3 will be defo outselling the 360 (not neccessarily by a big margin), i think by next yr there will be a HUGE price drop as sooner or later Sony will find a cheaper way to manufacture those blu ray diodes. and btw whats Nintendo's excuse for not being able to meet the demand, i mean since its soo cheap to create shouldnt they have been able to create more than they have (bad management methinks
