Over the course of the Playstation 3's UK launch weekend over 165,000 units were sold. That makes the PS3 the fastest selling home console ever.
PS3’s record-breaking debut for a home console comfortably beats the previous top seller Nintendo Wii, which sold 105,000 after its frantic launch weekend in December last year. Fellow format rival Xbox 360 racked up an estimated 70,000 at launch in December 2005.

Good news I know a lot of stores still have loads instore but they fail to take into account that the likes of Play.com and Amazon took a huge amount of orders and PS3 is still one of the top sellers on Amazon. It won't stop the critics slamming it though. I personally love it and I'm now in the process of getting it connected to my new wireless network. Lets hope that it can keep the momentum going.
the ps3 shipped more than that though so imo it shows that the ps3 is not as popular as other consoles. we will have to wait for the monthly sales figures to see how it really fares in the uk.
Yeah but according to people the PS3 is already dead and the recent announcement that Sony are discontinuing the 20gb model in North America only adds more fuel.
As you point out it's early days and I would say the PS3 is far from being dead, it will succeed. It's like a fine wine, it takes time to mature
