Some people seem to be having problems with the new media button on the xmb. If it isn't finding any devices it most likely means that your pc hasn’t got any DLNA enabled software running on it.
For PC’s running XP (like most people) you should be able to get hold of windows media player 11 this will do the job. If like me you can’t get WMP11 due to ‘licensing’ issues. You might want to try downloading any of these DLNA enabled software’s to get you up and running.

Tversity (free)

VLC Media Player (free)

Nero HomeMedia (think it’s free)

TwonkyMedia (free for 30days then £20)

I must be doing something wrong here...I cannot get the PS3 to even detect a 'media server' as it puts it

Been trying for hours and it just doesn't seem to want to do it. I've allowed wmp11 to be seen through the firewall and yet, nope, not detected. I've set up a shared network on my PC (though I'm not sure what I'm doing) and nothing. I don't want to download yet another media player and I figured wmp 11 would do it as everyone else seemingly is getting it to work

I'm getting a tad fricking frustrated to say the least with this update. Woop, everyone has streaming media, well I fricking don't

I have 40" of pure Sony Bravia LCD that my baby PS3 is hooked up to via HDMI and the FREE upgrade to 1.80 for upscaling ordinary DVDs is not to be missed. Thanks Sony, and like it's been said, a lot of people would have paid for the privelige.Glad I put the WII to sleep.

Anyone got HD x264 through DLNA working ?

I don't own a PS3 yet, but am really thinking of getting one. I'd also love to use it as media center to replace my xbox with xbmc..

Did anyone get streaming videos over DLNA working, especially the 720p or maybe even 1080p x264 video's ? And what about the other codecs, I read that DIVX/XVID is not supported (at least not the high bitrate or something) ?

Nero Homemedia works perfectly. I already had the full version of this so it plays divxs, dvds and so on perfectly. MP3's are a breeze, not to interested in pictures so that doesnt bother me, but it does display them well.

I was using a file transfer one before, but that was useless compared to this. Well done Sony. They never fail me, and Im amazed at what they churn out.

Keep up the good work.

Ive since discovered that it cant play HD films downloaded from the net. The reason for this is because of the codecs Nero has preinstalled. DVD and AVI are no problem but files with a TS or MKV extension wont play.

Can anyone who comes accross the relevant piece of software that can play these files, would you be kind enough to post what it is called on here.

You see i've got 500gb of music and i want know where is every song, singer.
But the main problem is that some songs have the name of the singer (or tag) and there is a huge problem when i choose from ps3 ''sort by album''.
So as far as i know there are not any great programs to support ps3 with DLNA.
Also i cant install Windows Vista because my pc has only 512mb ram. What should i do??? Please i need help!!!

[Dont say nothing about upgrading my pc because i am 15 years old(July4 16)
and i am not working(student)]

Nice collection of music there Dr.

I wish I knew any alternatives, but using the nero application, i was able to assign an extra folder throught it, which in my case is an external HDD with all my avi films and mp3's on it.

When I select my MP3 folder, it has them all in order by folder only, not band only. So as an example:

Keane - Hopes and Fears
Keane - Under the iron sea

That was a crap example. And I know for a fact that keane are also on some compilation albums but that would show up in that particular folder.

Hope that is of some help.

Probably not lol
