Rumor: 120-160GB PS3?

*80GB 120GB PS3 Inbound?

We all know that the 80GB PS3 is dead, but what about the rumor of a new PS3 in the offing? According to Ars Technica, an inside source (isn’t it always) has let slip there’s a new PS3 bundle headed our way and it will feature a 120-160GB hard drive and Dual Shock 3 controllers.

Personally I frakking hate it when this happens and early adopters get slapped in the teeth, but overall I guess onwards and upwards is better than being stuck with something too small to hold all your PS3 goodness as the Network expands.

Whether this rumor is true or not remains to be seen. The thing about a rumor like this is that it will probably eventually be true, even if there’s no truth to it at the moment. Eventually it would make sense for Sony to bundle the Dual Shock 3 with a new and larger SKU (Stock Keeping Unit for those not in the know). I guess if Ars Technica wait long enough they’ll be right.

If this is true its bloody stupid. Sony need to make up there mind. Stop changing the console all the time. first we had the 60 and 20. They droped the 20 and left us with only a 60. Then they add a 80 and drop the 60. Now they have a 40 and a 80. But a rumour is there is gonna be a 120. Geez...

I agree its getting a little annoying, especially if you live in UK/EU where they withdraw the 60gb give you the 40gb but not 80gb. I gave up waiting and got the 40 and I'l manually upgrade the HDD when i get round to buying a 160/240gb HDD, the only thing that really matters is the PS2 BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY which is what the 40 does not have (GRR).

Thats another thing that gets me, if the CBE is so powerful why cant they just software emulate the whole shebang and let me play at least a few of my old PS2 games on my PS3.

Sorry Rant over lol

I suppose that I disagree...

...with the fact so many versions of the console have been launched since it's release. With the Xbox360 (which has a had a few versions itself, with another in the works apparently) the versions have only been different in terms of memory, other than that, the console's hardware remained the same. With the PS3,the PAL regions lost out on the option of the 20GB from the off,and were left with 60GB that had more limited backward compatibillity than that of the American and Japanese consoles. Then both the 20GB and 60GB versions were scrapped, for two more versions of the console. The 80GB and 40GB marked the end of hardware based backward compatibillity (although, why s anyone bothered? Everyone owns a PS2 anyway),with the 40GB ending it for good.Once again the European games market gets slightly screwed as we fall short of havng two models like our American and Japanese friends, who get a choice still between the 40GB and 80/60GB.And now we find ourselves on a worldwide view looking at the possbillity of a version which stores up too (maybe) 160GB.I for one welcome the news as I think they're what is needed. With the PS3 devs are equipping their games with a download process,we've seen it with DMC and Lost Planet, other games will probably use a similar function. It seems GBs aren't as useful as they once were.Still, these kind of things do screw over early adopters of a system, the 360 owners were screwed when they got their core version or arcade version,as a 360 needs a HDD,and now,the PS3 needs one that is twice as big as the 60GB or even the 80GB.

I too have a 60GB version, and thought to myself, this will last me ages. But Heavenly Sword took up near enough 3GB for whatever, and Lost Planet took up 5GB marked in with everything else I would say I've used about 10GB since i got mine in October so that's a lot to use in that time I think, especially considering most was used in the last two months...
