Ugh.. this sounds like someone is trying to be too clever. EA are allegedly throwing around the idea of removing the pause function from upcoming PS3 survival horror title Dead Space. The idea is, if you can’t pause the game, you’ll be more immersed in it, scrolling through your inventory won’t be a walk in the park, it will be a frantic search for something to save your solitary ass. Now I liked this idea, until I read there will be no pause at all, now that’s another story.
The non pause idea with regards to inventory, healing yourself in game etc. does sound pretty cool and it would certainly crank up the stress factor as hordes of space monsters want to nibble on your delicate ass, but no pause at all, that sounds like a bad idea. What if your phone rings, nature calls, the door goes, your dog throws up, your baby cries and a multitude of other real life gaming interruptions occur? It’s handy to have the start button to hit so you can go do whatever you’ve gotta do and then return to the fray.
As far as Dead Space goes I was excited… no I was ecstatic, when I first read the press for this one. As a huge Alien (the movie) fan however I was gutted when I saw that rather than being a psychological mind-frak, Dead Space looked like just another monster leaps out—shoot it title. Oh and the weird Rocketeer / welders mask outfit.. ugh. Ahh well.
