Valentine’s Day gaming on the PS3

PS3 Valentine’s Day Special

Happy Valentine’s day PS3 gamers! Here we are celebrating love and what’s not to love about some good old fashioned PS3 gaming. Hopefully if you are with someone this Valentine’s Day they support your love of gaming. As a female gamer I can never understand it when I read stories of wives, girlfriends and yes, quite a few boyfriends that go all napalm over their partner’s hobby. If my partner got a love of something, I’d at least try to get into it too, or at the least support their enjoyment of it–that is after all what being together is all about. This doesn’t go however for the gamer who spends every spare second with their online gaming buddies and never shows their real life partner a percentage of the interest they show their joypads, that is just not on, remember, it’s a two way street.

So if you’re lucky enough to have a gaming partner YAY, if not, perhaps Valentine’s Day is the day to try and change all that. I’m not suggesting you stay in if you have plans to go out, I’m not suggesting you stay in all night and play games to yourself whilst now and again grunting for your ‘other half’ to get you a coke. What I am suggesting is some PS3 Valentine’s Day loving… together. Think it can’t be done.. there are ways….

There are rules when it comes to a partnership and these rules are fairly simple, be honest, be open, communicate…. and share. Any moron with a psych degree to someone who has lived a long and happy marriage / partnership will tell you this and this simple equation can be carried over to gaming.

Have you tried and failed to turn your partner onto gaming? Have you asked and given up? Do they scoff at you as soon as you reach for the joypad? Annoying isn’t it, but it doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom.

The rules of video game wooing…

Appeal to his / her loving side, tell them you want to hang out with them whilst you game, you don’t want it to be a solitary experience. Most people will succumb to the inherent romantic nature of a gamer saying they love gaming, but they love their partner more and they’d like to combine the two. If they don’t perhaps they have a heart of stone, or at the least week old bread.

Be inclusive in your gaming choices and watch the language you use. Here’s a hint–playing Heavenly Sword and saying “holy crap look at the knockers on her, I’d like to get me some of those” won’t impress your partner… well it might impress them if you’re a straight / bi female gamer.. but that aside. If your partner happens to be one of these irritating women or men that thinks gaming is for wee boys, appeal to her / him with something stereotypically non gamer …. go buy Singstar and watch the anti gaming barriers fall.

Don’t spend hours online chatting to your other PS3 loving buddies from around the globe. Remember, you’re trying to impress your Valentines date, not hook up with whoever you need to beat on Burnout. Focus on your date, ignore your online friends, it’s a simple rule that will melt the heart of any non-gamer.

If all else fails and you’re really struggling to get your non-gaming date / partner into some games, why not admit defeat and watch a movie…. But not just any movie, oh no. You can still get at least some PS3 thrills in when you slide in the latest Blu-ray movie of your choice and watch your PS3 in action on a whole other level.

If you aren’t one of these people that moan and complain about their girlfriend / boyfriend / husband / wife chances are you love your PS3 solitude and chances are your partner loves it too. If that works for you, ignore all the wooing talk, just don’t play your PS3 alone on Valentine’s night unless he / she says you should, you don’t want to get into trouble ;p
