News mills are a fluttering that everyone’s favorite serial killer ‘Dexter’ is heading to next gen consoles, namely the PS3 and Xbox 360. Reuters is reporting that Showtime will be turning Dexter into a video game.
Now before you all groan, as was my initial reaction, let’s think about this in more detail. This might not be as bad as we’re all thinking. Sure TV / Movie tie-ins are more often than not extremely dire, but if done right, this might break the mould.
As far as TV / Game tie-ins go I generally despise them, but the premise of Dexter is a clever one and it would be interesting to play a serial killer who offs other serial killers whilst working to protect himself and his identity. It sure beats yet another run and shoot, rinse and repeat title the game studios seem so in love with at present. Time will tell I guess, it really isn’t helping fan gamers fires of expectation given hip-hop fashion guru Mark Ecko’s entertainment studio is dealing with the game. I mean you don’t see Will Wright designing clothes now do you, but they’re looking at a number of developers with regards to the title so you never know. Cross your fingers people.
