Sony to cut PS3 price by 25%

As the European release date draws closer, industry analysts are predicitng a 25% price cut in the PS3 console within the first year of launch.

This will result in at least €150 being knocked off the €599 launch price.

As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the price cut will come within 12 months of the PS3's 23 March European launch, according to Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter.

"The PS3 can command £425 from the hardcore and I think you'll see price cuts a year from now, probably to £300," he said.

It won't happen. It's well known that Sony are making massive losses on each PS3. They would have to make phenomenal sales in order to actually make it profitable. This is just not going to happen as a lot of people seem to have completely lost faith in Sony and its PS brand. With this in mind it's hardly likely to reduce the price and hurt its finances further.

scootah i dont think people have lost faith in sony, the price is just really expensive right now and i dont think consumers want to pay $700 for a system...if they were to drop price in the next year then i believe they will dominate the competition and grow stronger.

I heard somewhere that if the sales of games in the next couple of months dont go well then they will have a slight price cut on the system.
