Are you connecting via a router or simply plugging into a modem?

Fixed it!

The solution was simple in the end and didn't require messing with all the settings under the sun that I had been doing. I had many problems including not being able to allocate an IP address, not seeing the server name, DNS error you name it I had it.

The way we sorted it was a process of elimination - ie is it your ISP, your hardware or you settings. If 1 and 2 are in shape the Ps3 should automatically detect everything.

My problem was my gateway (ie I had a 3Com ADSL modem / router in one) which was about 3 years old. I got hold of a new device - a Netgear DG834PN and replaced the 3Com one. I set up the router but changed the internet settings on the router from PPPoPE to PPPoPA and entered all the login credentials as normal. I disabled wireless security and then rebooted everything.

Powered up the Ps3 and it worked first time. Then I enabled WPA wireless security and away we go.

In summary, check your router and use PPPoPA. I'm on AOL. My brother has Sky Broadband and it worked on that too using a Netgear Modem/Router and PPPoPA

Hi,

I initially had the same problem, so i went out and purchased a router. Once connected i got a "Succedeed" message for the first one then a "Failure" for the second.

What i was told to do was clone the mac address.

With the instruction manual i got with it, it said to type in a n IP address to get access to the router, then I just selected the tab that let me clone the mac address, clicked apply, then I was up and running.

No problems since. Ive downloaded all the game demos and videos, and played resistance and motorstorm online..

I hope this helps.

I would recommend using the stronger WPA encryption if your Router supports it! Just select it from the security settings screen and create a new password. (Remember to update your PS3 connection settings after).

I know a lot of you are just pleased you've got your wireless working at all and don't want to mess with it all again, but I must stress, WEP encrypted passwords are easily hacked by a determined person.

How do you clone a MAC address. Ive spoke to Sony and they told me the same thing but i dont know how to do it. Did you do it on your router or ps3?
