not connecting to network?
When i plug the ethernet cable into my laptop it shows a message saying`limited connectivity, you may not be able to connect to the internet`or words to that effect.Anybody any ideas? If i use the cable that came with the ps3 or a crossover cable it still gives the same message.
When i used to go on xbox live i used the crossover cable to connect to the web via my laptop,as i dont have a router.Hope you can help.

Yes, you can't connect the PS3 directly to a computer, it needs a router.

You can connect the ps3 via a pc/laptop just like the 360,the problem i had was with my ethernet port/connection.At some point recently i had deleted a file or something that enabled internet connection sharing, this stopped the laptop from connecting to the ps3.The only way i could think of to fix the issue was to re-install windows on my laptop. This took about 2 hrs in all.I plugged a cross-over cable, not the same as the cable that came with the ps3,let the ps3 do its internet connection stuff and it all semms to be up and running now.At present i am waiting for the GT HD demo to download, updated my machine as well so i can play Gran Turismo 3 now! Thanks for everyones input in helping me,i spent ages sifting through all the inernet related posts on this forum, and there is a lot of them.!lol

If you want to share the Internet connection on your computer with your PS3, then you will need a crossover cable, the normal CAT5 or CAT6 cables will not work...

Hondan. I used the cross-over cable that i originally used for my 360 when i went on live,in fact a lot of credit goes to you.Like i said i sifted through all the threads about connecting/not connecting etc and a lot of them had replies from you.You certainly know your stuff.Big pat on the back.
Just gotta wait for the GT HD demo to download,i disconected last night as after 45mins it had only downloaded 31% so i`m having another go now.Hopefully people will be in bed/at school/work.Cheers

Hi Guys
Iv'e just bought a PS3 and had no problems connecting to the network via my laptop using the ethernet cable which came with the PS3. all you have to do is make sure that your network settings is ticked to allow all other network users to connect through this computers internet connection.
Go to your Network connection- properties-sharing-and just select the above and click ok.
This worked for me.
