I dont know if you already have one but you need to have an ethernet card installed in your pc first, when i had my pc i paid £5.00 for mine.Once thats installed connect the ps3 to the ethert port and the pc tells you that a Local area Connection has been made.I had an issue with my ethernet port on my laptop but once that was sorted after plugging in the cross-over cable and firing up the ps3 it pretty much sorted itself out.
I believe Hondan is the man.Cheers

Broadband is the same way...

1. make sure you have 2 network connections on your computer. (ie. one Ethernet, one Wireless or 2 Ethernet)

2. Connect your computer to the modem via ethernet or wireless through the first connection, and then connect your computer to your PS3 using the crossover cable from the second ethernet port on your computer.

3. If you are running Windows 2000 professional and above (ie. XP), go to start -> settings -> control panel, and open network connections.

4. Once network connections window is opened, right click on the first connection (The connection you used between the modem and your computer), and choose properties.

5. Once the properties window pops up, click on the advanced tab (for Vista users, click on the sharing tab), and check the "allow other users to connect through this computer's internet connection" check box, then choose the name of the second connection in the drop down box below.

6. Finally, click OK, and voila, you have just shared your Internet connection with your PS3.
