Mines a UK version.I spent a few hours sifting through the threads about connections etc,Hondan seems to be the one in the know.Once i`d got my ethernet port sorted,i connected it to the ps3 and the ps3 basically did its stuff.I dont now if its to do with the fact yours is a jap version maybe?

What type of internet connection are you using? Depending on your ISP, they may have dynamic IP.

I believe you're talking about your PS3's internal IP address (rather than your ISP assigned IP address), it'll be along the lines of 192.168.x.x?

The reason this changes is because your Router is typically set to assign IP addresses automatically when a PC (or PS3 in this case) connects to the network. If you manually enter these settings it will always remain the same, but if left to automatically assign it simply finds the first available IP address and assigns it to the PS3. This may from time to time change based on several factors (other PCs logging into the network, router being reset, Internet connectivity etc).

It's really nothing to worry about, between the router & the PS3 they are smart enough to work out the relevant settings to ensure it just works. As long as it is working - just enjoy

Andy, your IP address changed because you assigned a DHCP address to the PS3 and configured your PS3 IP address using the "automatic" option. You can actually go to your router configuration and change the lease time for your DHCP addresses to forever, and set your PS3 IP address using the manual configuration, then your IP address will not change in the future.

EDIT: It is good to have a fixed (static) IP address, since you don't have to re-apply any firewall or port forwarding rules every time your IP address changes.
