Wired connection problem!

Hi. I have an ethernet card and a dsl connection(768k).
I tryd to connect the playstation to the internet but always i fail.
It never connect to the ps3. This message is always on: A network cable is unplagged. The cable i used is the same that came with my ps3(cat6 utp).
I need a step by step quide if it is possible.
It is not unplagged. I lookd it 100 times. What is the problem?
I don't know much about networks as you can see.

P.S. I don't have a router. Any help will be a light in the dark.

IT seems you have a software problem with ethernet card.
You can call SONY if you believe that it is their problem.
But i suggest you to call a PC technician.

Are you trying to set up an ICS. Firstly you need a cross over cable (£10 squid in Argos if you cant be arsed with waiting for Ebay to send)

Connect you PS3 to the PC via the crossover cable and then goto network setup wizard and let it do its thing. let us know if you have trouble.

you don't need a different cable for internet connection sharing, i use this with cable supplied with ps3 and it works fine.

are you sure. ICS will only work with a catt5 cable, the PS3 supplied cable is not one of those.

I get it too, though I currently use WiFi.

Make sure you're not using a crossover cable, these nasties are often the source of the problem.

If it's a piece of generic cable (you know, the type you simply roll of up to your desired lenght, cut it off, and apply the connector) make sure the connectors are placed correctly.

In my case, that message keeps flashing on my screen whenever I plug the cable in. A few days ago however, I tried pressing the connector firmly onto the cable itself, and it detected it! I even obtained an IP, but I got an error on DNS. But the cable seemed to be working fine.

hi peeps,

just need to let you all know that, whilst some of you may be fine doing a crossover connection with non cross over cable, some of you may however need a cross over cable depending on your technology, newer NATs are coming with an auto sensing ability, allowing it to detect the type of cable and adjust the pins it uses to make it a cross or not cross over cable!

Alex
