Recommend a Wireless Router?

Hello,
I'm on cable modem from NTL, i also use a Netgear Wireless Router MR8 14v2, but i cannot get on-line with it.

I have configured the SSID, the WEP key, enabled UPnP and i have 100% coverage signal at the moment but i cannot get it to connect on-line. If i use a wired LAN it is obviously not an issue, but i was hoping to be able to use the PS3 upstairs, away from the wireless router.

Can anybody recommend a wireless router when using cable modem?

The one i have at the moment doesn't seem to want to play ball, so i may have to look at buying another one.

Alternatively does anybody else have one of these routers and have you been able to get it working?

Any help would be appreciated.

I agree. They are the home version of Cisco, the kings of networking.

pppfffttt... I use the D-link DGL-4300 (gamer lounge). Made for gaming.
Go to frys.com - they have it on sale at the moment for 76 bucks. Ive seen it listed as high as 120 smackers. This is what I have and use. Remember that the more walls or floors the signal goes through it will degrade, but as long as you dont live in a mansion with the router at the other end I think you'll be fine.

D-Link are good.
Linksys are a pain to setup but work well.
Dont go near Belkin
Netgear is the way forward - I have used all of them and this is by far the best router.
I know I have mentioned it a few times but thats coz it actually is. I sell loads of these and they should cost no more than about £85. Bargain.

pppfffttt......salesmen

I must admit I did look at the netgear before I went with the D-link.
The D-link was a breeze to set up, and works like a dream.

haha - yea but at least i wasn't trying to sell you one. I promise I was just trying to pass on some product knowledge - honest guv! ;-)

D-Link are very good - only thing I found with mine was it needed restarting every now and then. As long as its chucking out wireless who gives a fock!

They do a job and yes they work but have a reputation in the industry for being cheap and cheerful and a bit plasticy. I sell to companies most of the time and they tend to steer clear of it.
At the end of the day i've just had the missus on the phone saying my 'the bollox' netgear is playing up and keeps dropping out! Though i think it is a line problem rather than the router. ;-)

They all do a job and its whatever you are happy with.

Anyone have any wireless problems with a wii? Mine was a nightmare.

I also have a friend who's an IT manager at a local secondary school. He helped set up the entire school network there almost on his own and he rates Belkin very highly which is why I got a Belkin wireless G router with built in modem. It's wired to my PC and wireless to my PS3 and PSP and not once have I had a problem with dropouts or anything, it seems really good and stable for gaming and doesn't feel at all cheap and plasticky, Well, no more than the D-Link router my friend has got. As you said, it's whatever works for you, but I do think you are a bit harsh on the Belkin.

Each to their own and all that - its just what feedback i have had. Clearly they do a job as they are still in business. They just tend to be cheaper than all other brands. Apologies to any belkin owners who are offended

Why issues with the Wii? I think its great fun and quality when people come round. The PS3 is crying out for a multiplayer split screen racer - whats that Calling all cars I hear you say!
