Help with Internet Connection - DNS Error 80710102
I got my PS3 over here in the UK and have tried to get online numerous times. As of yet I have been unsuccessful.
I have a Motorola SB4200 SURFboard Cable Modem. I am using the ethernet cable provided with the PS3, slotting it into the back of my modem and slotting it into the back of the PS3. I got the IP Address, Subnet Mask etc. from the Modem and entered that manually when setting up. When I get to the end I get a successful IP address but Internet Connection fails. A code 'DNS Error 80710102' comes up. There are a few things I'm unsure about when setting up. For example when setting up manually, I have a code for a 'default gateway' (dg) instead of a 'default router' (dr). I am entering the 'dg' code into the 'dr' code space provided. Also I have three DNS server codes so I'm not sure which ones to enter.
I have tried many DNS codes reccomended by other websites but they don't work.
Anyone have any ideas of what I'm doing wrong and any suggestions on how to solve this. Any responses would be extremely helpful

Is this strictly for the ps3 or is your comp hooked up to the modem too?
Before my wireless router my cable modem only has one port....so I would unplug my comp and plug in the ps3 when I wanted to play.
when I did that I had to unplug and replug in the modems power cord or it didnt work for some reason (resetting the modem i think). Then go in the ps3 network settings and set it up for wired connection which im sure you know....but I thought it was mostly automatic....I cant quite remember it was awhile ago....
Just a thought dont know if this will help....I feel your pain cause its just not the same without being able to go online and tear it up..

I tried unplugging the modem and starting it again with the PS3 Ethernet Cable in the back. I then went to 'Internet Connection Test' and tried it but it did the same thing. I should have gone to 'Internet Connection Settings' and done it from there but I didn't. I then took out the PS3 Ethernet cable from the back and put back my standard internet connection. This stopped my internet from working altogether so i had to unplug and plug in the modem again and the Internet started working again.
Virgin Media is my ISP if that helps.
If need arises I'll break down and get a wireless router. Any cheap but good suggestions? Do I need a wireless access point?
By computer is downstairs and my PS3 the furthest possible distance away upstairs - about 20 - 25 metres

When you unplugged your cable modem did all the lights come back on--before you tested the connection?? Probly did...
Not sure what the prob is...

No, I'm currently trying to get my PS3 working on a TV that's right next to my computer. Obviously I'll need to go wireless if I want to play it upstairs

I use a D-Link DGL-4300...got it off the net for 75$ from frys.com..its normally over 100$...Ive heard Netgear is good to but ive never tried them.
All you do is plug in Router to cable modem then comp to wireless router and good to go...all there is left to do now is set up security settings if you want...really easy...or it was for me

Do they do these in the UK and are they compatible with any computer?

How do I plug the router into the Cable Modem and PC to router. Is any accessories needed supplied with Router. What about wireless access points. Do they come with router? If not do you know where I can get one and which to get? Sorry I'm asking so many questions it's just I really want to understand what I'm doing and that it'll work before I spend £50 or so on something that may not work

I think you can get them in UK (not sure).
All you need comes with router and diagram on how to plug it all up (easy).
I know some of the UK guys on here use a Belikin router.
I know nothing on wireless access points or what that is to be honest.
