Problems downloading and installing 1.81

I have just spent a very frustrating 4 hours, trying to update 1.81. First I tried it direct through my PS3 and after several hours downloading at a snails pace, it dropped out just before the end! I then tried downloading it from the website on my PC to a 2GB Kingston data traveller. Once again there were a number of failed downloads, but finally I managed to get 100%. Unfortunately when I tried to System Update using the USB Flashdrive, the PS3 could find no data. Can anyone advise me what I am doing wrong. I have downloaded other updates, over the network without any problems until now. It seems to me that downloading over the internet to your computer is vastly quicker than over the PS3 network, and I would like to be able to use this facility. Can anyone advise me what is the best (safest) way of updating and tell me where I might have gone wrong?

have you a camera memory stick (the slightly bigger ones, middle slot on the PS3) well you can use that. what you must do is go into files, create a file called PS3 and within that folder create another one called UPDATE (must be caps) and then download it into that file, once downloaded move it over onto the memory stick or if your using your flashdrive then that, and then put it into your PS3. simple =]

Sorry, but I need to be clear. I have not got a camera memory card, why can't I use the Kingston Data Traveller? Secondly am I creating the file and folder on the PC? I assume that I am. Thanks for your help.

Regards

Bill

You have to create both folder at the USB device so that the PS3 can recognize it, otherwise it wont! its programed path

E:/PS3
------> UPDATE
------------->update file

look here is what i done

got my memory stick and out it in the side of my laptop, your probably using your PC so stick your data stick thing into a usb slot. now create a folder in my documents called ''PS3'' then within that folder, in other words...in that folder create another file called ''UPDATE'' now download the update to that file, once done, move it over to your data stick thing and then put it in your PS3. simple
