I went to Best Buy to buy a wireless router. I was going to buy a Linkey's wireless router for like $50. The the guy there said I would also need a gaming adapter. I have never heard of that before. I was reading my PS3 manuel and it said that I need an access point to connect wirelessly. Is the gaming adapter the access point? Or is the access point on the wireless router? I read somewhere on here that you can also connect your PS3 directly in the modem if you unhook your computer. I tryed that and it didn't work. Could anybody shed some light on this for me? Thanks...

when you plugged in your ps3 did you go to network setting to set up the wired settings on the ps3??

never heard of a gaming adapter.....but that doesn't mean anything just cause I haven't heard of it...

this is what I use.....D-Link Gamer lounge wireless Router.....cabled from my cable modem to wireless router...then computer plugged into it (which has several ethernet ports)....then set my ps3 settings to wireless in network settings and followed the steps from there....you may not have to unplug your computer...that is if your modem as more than one ethernet port...if only one port then you will have to unplug your computer.....hope that helps...

you dont need an adaptor as the ps3 is already wirless, just a router.

I think the guy at Best Buy hasn't had much experience with the PS3 because it's supposed to be wireless out of the box. I think the 360 might need a gaming adapter but I'm not sure. I was asking if you could connect the PS3 through just a modem wired. I've tried numerous times and it doesn't work. Thanks again for the help. If anybody else has anything to add then please be my guest...

wired is no problem.....plug it in, then go to network settings and it should say wired, and then go through the setup settings which is easy and test connection....if problem persists then you might have to contact your isp....

if you have a pc you could create a network and go online thatway, i did this before i went wirless!

So then correct me if I'm wrong but all I need to connect my PS3 up to the internet wirelessly is a dsl or cable modem and a router?

Just buy a wireless cable or dsl (whichever connection you have) modem/router combined. You can then set up your PS3 to pick up the wireless connection and then you'll be laughing!!
