Hmm, I don't know about wired connections but my wireless connection worked perfectly for me with the PS3 right out of the box.
Try the wireless again, if it doesn't work, enter your IP Address into the URL Bar. (www.whatismyip.com). Press enter and you should get a popup that asks for a Username and Password, which you've probably set since you said you had a WPA2 code set. If not, it should be admin for both username and password.
Anyway, you should be at your Router's Setup page now. Go to Wireless Settings or Wireless Security or whatever, and disable all the security. Don't worry, nothing will happen. Now try to connect your PS3 again, if it works, you can either keep it without Security, which isn't too risky unless you think your neighbors will leech your network. Or, you could try other security types, such as WPA (which works for my PS3) or WEP. Then you'll just have to set a new passcode and all but it's all still secure.
Another thing you may want to look into is to see if you set a limit on how many connections the Router can take. I used to have mine set to 4 so only me, my brother, my dad, and my dad's laptop could connect, but I changed it to unlimited since the network was secure anyway. I doubt this is the reason but look into it if all else fails.
