NAT Typer Failed

Iv heard of people having NAT typer 1, 2 and 3. But i have none (apparently). When i test online connestion everything goes smoothly until NAT type. It just says NAT Type: Failed. I was reading on the rasinbow six web site that maybe everybody is having prob's because your NAT type may be messed. So i want to fix this. Any ideas how ?

Wireless or wired? Lol.

If it's wireless maybe you're firewall is blocking everything? I know I had NAT3 until I opened some ports on my router, then I got NAT2.

I'm having the same problem and I'd like to change my NAT 3 to 2. My systems hooked up to my bros Linksys router(WIRED). Most times i get to sign in but always get booted after 5 mins or so(gets an error). I got to create a PS id name and all but it wouldn't let me download update for COD4. How would I open up a port for the router? I'm not that computer friendly so please bare with me.

Go to 192.168.1.1 (that's the default router address)

Then search somewhere online that gives you the port numbers to open.

1. Got to 192.168.1.1 like tehXdrk said
2. Look in security settings
3. Look for DMZ options
4. Set a static address for DMZ
5. PS3 settings - Set static ip to same that you used for DMZ
6. Voila! I should be 2 now.

Haha, this is the easy part!
1. Go to 192.168.1.1
2. In "administration settings" click enable for UPnP
3. There you go!

OK Freddy now I'm gonna try to help you out.

1. (ON COMPUTER) In Firefox, IE, Safari, Opera/whatever browser you use type: 192.168.1.1

2. You will be prompted for a user/pass. As long as noone has been changing your settings both the user and pass should be: admin

3. OK now youre in your router settings, there should be tabs at the top. Click on the one that says: Applications & Gaming

4. Now there are sub-tabs, click on the one that says DMZ

5. Now enable DMZ, for your static ip (well discuss this later), enter a number. I use 125 so go with something like that. SO MY PS3's STATIC IP IS 192.168.1.125!

What is DMZ you ask? Well it is the thing that allows UNLIMITED port forwards to a certain static IP, while this would be harmful for your PC, it is great for a PS3.

6. Click save settings and go to your PS3.

Bare with me here, I cannot get to my PS3 right now and doing this from memory.

7. Go to network settings.

8. Go to configure connection.

9. Automatic settings is highlighted, go down to manual settings and press X.

10. You now have to enter a STATIC IP, THIS IS SO THE DMZ GOES TO THE CORRECT IP. ENTER THE SAME IP NUMBER THAT YOU DID FOR THE DMZ (ex: in my case it was 192.168.1.125)

11. Now save settings and test connection. If you have NAT 2 and UNAP good than congrats, youre done.

Phew. That was a long one.

Yeah. Double post. I know.

Hmmm... yeah then I don't know. But I don't think UPnP is absolutely necessary, I was still able to play resistance online with it disabled.

Completely follow my directions. Steps 1 and 2 get you to the router settings.

Ok, i did what u told me but we're still getting NAT 3. A few things I have too mention. When you told me to enter 192.168.1.1 into our internet explorer(browser), all that came up was a google search. So what my bro did was enter 192.168.2.1, don't ask me why but it worked (maybe cause he's running VISTA?) and we got into his router setting. Then we went into DMZ and changed the ip to 192.168.2.103, I did this because I got this # from the PS3 when i did a easy setup. Still nothing. Then I configured everything to 192.168.2(.40), both on the router and PS3 to see if that would work, still NADA.

Do I have to disconnect the Ethernet cable coming outta the router to PS3 to reset it? I did that to the PS3 instead of the router because its easier to get to and still no luck, would it make a difference coming outta the router or PS3?

One more thing is that i DON'T have a secondry DSN, would this affect anything? What is DSN anyways? Our primary DSN is 192.168.1.1 and our secondary reads 0.0.0.0 When my bro went into Router Settings I saw that these numbers were way different, should i enter what they read(both primary and secondary)?

Ok, now this is going a bit over my head, but ill still try to help.

The directions were just from my own personal experience with my linksys router. The change from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1 is probably just because you are using an different router, no big deal. Vista wouldn't change the number.

You should try entering the DNS (primary and secondary) that your brother sees, it should be correct. I don't actually know what DNS is, but you have to set it, so I guess its important.

Whatever changes you make, always make sure the static ip for both ps3 and dmz are the same, and that the ps3 is set to manual settings (easy won't work because it can change the ps3's ip).

Thats all I can help, maybe someone else here knows some more about this kind of stuff.
