I have just bought a PS3 and want to connect to the internet but don't yet have a router.I heard you could plug it straight into a modem via the ethernet cable however my modem does not have a slot for the cable, it has a small telephone type slot and a USB wire coming out of it. Any sugestions to what i'm doing wrong?

You need a router. Wal-mart 30.00 - 100.00.

It seems you have a usb type modem. The PS3 requires an ethernet type modem if you plan on using wires.

Ok can you advise me on any good ones?

I got a guy in to install one but it didn't work and he later found the router because it didn't work on his computer either... So i haven't had a good start with wireless routers

I just called my cable company, asked how much more I would have to pay to get a wireless router brought in instead of a wired modem. They told me it would be another 5 dollars (US dollars) a month. They came and brought me my new wireless router and plugged it into my computer. Than I just set up my ps3 myself. It was very easy. I've heard some people have trouble with their setup. Mine worked fine for me. I don't have any fancy kind of router either. It's just a no name brand router.

I'm sure just about any router you get would work.

can anyone tell me how to connect my PS3 to the internet i have a wireless router. can i get online without using any wires?

First install the software that came with the router. Then follow the instructions they give. Also if you plug your modem into the PS3 directly you would have a type 1 connection. You didn't need a router. Ethernet cord from modem to PS3.

Is there a place at the back of ps3 where u can put the same internet cable that i use on my computer ? So u basicly can take the internet computer cable and just put it in the ps3 when u feel like playing ps3 ?
