Router and PS3 configuration
Hi all, I'm at my wits end so thought I would try this forum to see if anyone could assist. I have a linksys WRT54G wireless router and the 60GB PS3. I have it hooked up to my PS3 directly (Wired connection, not using the wireless). I have read many posts and have no idea why I can not get my headset to work online.
I'm able to get online and play games (Other then hockey for some reason I can get online with hockey but unable to launch games, but i will leave that for another time)
Anyways I have a Logitech USB headset which the PS3 detects and when I do a microphone test it does pick up a signal so I'm assuming that part is set up correctly. (Have both mic and headset set to use the logitech in the PS3 setup)
However when playing Resistance fall of man or I have a buddy who was trying to do the online chat with me the headset does not work. Playing resistance I just get nothing but I'm online and able to play. When doing the PS3 online chat with my buddy it will just not connect. In all my limited expierence with setting up my home network I have a feeling that the router is not configured correctly to allow the chat to work.
I have set up the router to use DHCP, also have the DMZ set to the same IP address as the PS3 but still no luck. I have a feeling I may need to open some specific ports or something but could not find any info on which ports to open.
Any help from some PS3 network Guru's out there would be much appreciated.
Sam

Here is what I posted in the same thread you posted in the hardware section...
Quote:
I have my PS3 hard wired to my router too with no port forwarding enabled on it, and it plays fine online, although I don't have a headset... OK, what you want to do is disconnect the PS3 from your router, connect it directly to your cable / DSL modem and see if the problem persists, this will at least isolate or eliminate your router as the problem source.
If it still doesn't work, then it is a problem with your ISP and they have possibly blocked certain ports on your connection, if it works, then we will have to figure out which port we must forward to your PS3.
If it does work, then you must forward the appropriate ports to your PS3. To configure port forwarding, you must first determine your NAT IP address for the PS3 (ie. 192.168.x.x), after you have discovered the IP address, you must then go to your router configuration page, and go to the port forwarding section, this section is also called virtual server sometimes. Once at this section you must enter the UDP and TCP port number and specify the PS3's IP address as the destination for the forwarding operation. Now, there are a few PS2 ports Sony registered back in early 2000's, and I do suspect that these ports may also be in use by the PS3. They are: TCP 4658, 4659 and UDP 4658 and 4659. So, try to forward these 4 ports to your PS3 first and see if it works.

Playstation network is rather simple... If you have a online capable game, you can simply launch the online mode within the game to play online. In addition to the ability to play online for free, you can also launch the Playstation store from the PS3 XMB (Cross Media Bar) and download movie trailers, game demos, additional content and purchase additional games.

If you are using a router, from your router configuration, forward both TCP and UDP ports 4658 and 4659 to your PS3's internal IP address. That should do the trick.

Hi,
I do apologise for not actualy helping, I need some help. I can see that you have the same router as me, and yours is working. My ps3 works ok when connected via cable modem, but doesn't work via router. As soon as I connect ps3 and router, router starts switching on and off. My PC is working ok when connected via router. Where is the problem, in PS3 or in the router? How do I configure it to work?
